FSA Emergency Loans Available Because of Natural Disasters

USDA Asks for Comments on Final Environmental Assessment
On September 26, 2006, a legal settlement was signed between the National Wildlife Federation and FSA that limited the frequency of haying on CRP lands to once every ten years and grazing to once every five years in Kansas; with a suspension of haying and grazing during the primary nesting season (April 15 to July 15). The settlement stipulated that if a change to the frequency of haying and grazing or the primary nesting season (PNS) dates is desired, then an Environmental Assessment would be prepared that identifies the potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts of such a change. — Full Story »

USDA And Department of Justice Announce Historic Settlement In Lawsuit By Black Farmers Claiming Discrimination By USDA
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the successful resolution of the longstanding litigation known as Pigford II. The settlement agreement reached today, which is contingent on appropriation by Congress, will provide a total of $1.25 billion to African American farmers who alleged that they suffered racial discrimination in USDA farm loan programs. The settlement sets up a non-judicial claims process through which individual farmers may demonstrate their entitlement to cash damages awards and debt relief. — Full Story »
USDA Announces Commodity Credit Corporation Lending Rates for March 2010
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) today announced interest rates for March 2010. The CCC borrowing rate-based charge for March 2010 is 0.375 percent, unchanged from February 2010. For 1996 and subsequent crop year commodity and marketing assistance loans, the interest rate for loans disbursed during March 2010 is 1.375 percent, unchanged from February 2010. — Full Story »
USDA Announces Additional 300,000 Acres for Wildlife Habitat Expansion and Intent to Conduct General Conservation Reserve Program Signup In 2010
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that USDA has approved an additional 300,000 acres for conservation projects under the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). These additional areas include 150,000 acres for the State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement (SAFE) Initiative; 50,000 acres for the Duck Nesting Habitat Initiative; and 100,000 acres for the Habitat Buffers for Upland Birds Initiative. USDA Signs MOU With Pheasants Forever To Enhance Conservation Efforts
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farm Service Agency (FSA) have entered into an agreement with Pheasants Forever to identify and create more opportunities to conserve plant and animal species and their habitats.
